"She was a disaster"

I have had an... interesting day. One full of interesting twists and unexpected turns. One that I will happily see the end of. Having divested myself over time of many of my vices, however, there aren't many ways I can think of now to blow off some steam. So I am turning to one of my baser and less admirable pass-times in order to relieve the tension.

I'm talking, of course, about Sarah Palin schadenfreude.

Gov. Palin is supposedly one of the front-runners for the GOP's presidential nomination in three years. Color me skeptical. Leaving aside that she comes across as dumb as a post (no matter how smart her supporters claim she is) and is a deeply polarizing figure, apparently she can't even be bothered to shore up support within her own party.

From Fox News (!):
Sarah Palin is out and Newt Gingrich is in.

Congressional Republicans decided Tuesday to ditch the former GOP vice presidential nominee in favor of the former House speaker for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in June 8 in Washington. It's the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates.

Just weeks ago, the House and Senate Republican campaign committees were giddy at securing the telegenic Palin for the dinner. But then things grew murky. At the time, the Alaska governor's office told FOX News that Palin was still considering the invitation and had not yet made a decision. Meantime, spokespersons for the committees insisted that Palin was scheduled and it was just a misunderstanding between the Alaska governor's office and Palin's political action committee, SarahPAC, that accepted the invite.

Sources familiar with the Palin snub fumed about how the governor handled this.

"She was a disaster," one Republican source told FOX News. "We had confirmation."

[snip]

Palin withdrew at the last moment from speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference meeting in Washington earlier this year.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Thank you, Gov. Palin. Knowing you are that much farther away from the Oval Office makes a day spent dealing with penny ante pornographers much, much more bearable.

  1. Ooooh ooooh, more Palin-obsession news for you, Dan!

THE mother of the boyfriend of former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's daughter sent text messages to two police informants discussing drug transactions before her arrest on felony drug charges, authorities say.

OMG! Can you imagine? This lady almost became VP, and look at how her family behaves (erm, relatives of her family's friends). Well, I'm so glad to know that nothing like that would ever come from our current VP and all around great guy Joe Biden. We can all light candles to Buddha that the MSM is still following Ms. Palin around to watch out for this sort of thing.

Off topic, but this poem seems more relevant each passing day

Only What We Want Them to Know:
The Brave Code of Modern Journalism:

    Barack has a business partner,
    Tony Rezko, he’s a crook;
All of Barack’s friends are creepy,
That is, if we care to look.

But we don’t, because we fear that
    Following the facts might lead
    To the kind of information
    That our readers shouldn’t read.

We need to feed them nothing but
    Propaganda without end,
Like this shocking scoop on Sarah’s
    Daughter’s boyfriend’s mother’s friend.

  2. Uh, John, hunny-bunny, I haven't breathed a word about Palin's family or their private lives. It's very amusing to me that you would go to the trouble to post your comment about something I didn't pay any attention to at all, and then make fun of people that pay attention to it. You might have made an effort to comment about Palin's PAC and the idiotic way they're going about grooming her for 2012, but perhaps that's expecting too much?

Your poem is cute. Did you write it yourself? Good for you!

  3. Hey Dr. Dan, maybe we can call it Palinfreude instead. Speaking of personal lives, she was pretty classless insulting the father of her grandchild for what he said on Tyra Bank's show. One, he is a young guy prone to doing foolish things, two, what he said wasn't even all that bad. In fact, it had the absolute ring of truth; that Palin knew full well her daughter was sexually active and knew their was little she could do to stop it. (Although, perhaps, she could have seen to it that her daughter were on birth control, but it is understandable how she had a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.)
Palin as a mother I had no reason to criticize, but Palin the politica is an train wreck, and it seems to be spilling over in to her private life. She should have issued a statement that her private life should remain private and she would not comment on it, regardless of what others in her extended family say.
