After a three-hour debate, the Maine House approved a same-sex marriage bill. The bill faces one more vote each in the House and Senate.Assuming the Senate reaffirms what it has already passed, this will head to Governor Baldacci to be signed.Representatives voted 89-58 this afternoon in favor of the bill after rejecting an amendment that called for a November referendum. The bill was sent back to the Senate after the House vote.
I doubt very much if Gov. Baldacci is a Bleakonomy reader. If you should happen to be reading, Governor, I would urge you to think about the kind of person that supports LD1020, the kind of person that opposes it, and the kind of people who have supported you. And then do the right thing.
