It doesn't bode well for the future that "leaders" of major American
institutions look at naked emperors and compliment them on their beautiful

I'm not Catholic, but I agree with the position that abortion should not be covered by the public option. The Stupak amendment contains the standard "rape, incest, and life of the mother" exceptions, so this really is about retroactive birth control. I shouldn't be forced to buy condoms for the public, and I shouldn't be forced to buy abortions for the public (except in cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother at stake).
ReplyDeleteIf my tax dollars are going to go towards subsidizing health insurance for poor people, it is not unreasonable that an issue such as abortion should be taken out as an issue, if for nothing more than political much less than moral reasons. Do you wish to risk the whole practice of subsidies if Republicans win on abortion funding as an issue? If you support pro-choice, then donate to Planned parenthood, help create some small co-op health insurance plan that covers family planning. Once the poor, uninsured have basic health care, they would easily be able to afford such a plan since contraceptive care is so comparitively cheap, and the more family planning, the less need for abortions.
ReplyDeleteNot everything requires government funding or solutions. Compromise when needed to accomplish the worthy goals of health care for all.

gj, if you would write more like this, holding down on the snark, I find you far more reasonable, and it is not because I agree with you on this issue (I don't agree it is retroactive birth control, I think it is what it is, which is making sure tax money won't go towards paying for optional abortions). So please keep up the normalcy and I will refrain from the attack dog mode.

GJ, I think that's a perfectly reasonable sentiment. However, I also think it's perfectly reasonable for people to disagree with you. Finally, I think it is eminently reasonable for people to wish to belong to a church that doesn't demand conformity of belief for membership.
